Micro Growers - Youth Summer Day Camp
Calling all Revelstoke youth who want to spend the summer learning about local food and getting their hands really dirty!
The Revelstoke Local Food Initiative's summer camp program is back for another year, and provides an engaging and educational experience for youth interested in learning about local food, our natural environment and agriculture. Each week campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including:
Stewardship: Understanding our connection to the land.
Food Literacy: Campers will forge a deeper understanding about their relationship with food and our local food systems.
Gardening: The campers will learn about local food growing, and care for a local garden that will produce food to be donated to the local food bank.
Farming: We will have the opportunity to learn about our local farmers and how they contribute to our community.
Foraging: The campers will learn about what foraging is and how it can be a part of food sources.
Pollinators: Learn about the importance of bees and other pollinators to our local food systems.
Kitchen Skills: Learn important skills for creating + cooking with some foods from the garden.
Sustainability: Explore the world of composting and waste reduction, and how it relates to a sustainable lifestyle.
Climate resilience: Campers will learn how they can make a positive impact on the environment.
Creativity: Campers will participate in creative activities, games and art projects that relate to local food.
Community giving: Campers will learn about contributing to their community through the foodbank and other ways.
The program is led by an experienced and engaged instructor who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and love of local food with the next generation. By the end of each week, campers will have a deeper understanding of where their food comes from and how they can make healthy and sustainable choices.
