Community Gardens
Whether you are a seasoned grower looking for space to grow, or new to gardening - our community gardens offer a space for growing along with opportunities for knowledge sharing. Not only do you get the chance to cultivate fresh, healthy produce right in your neighborhood, but you also foster a strong sense of community spirit.
Community gardens have been a part of the Revelstoke food culture since 2008, offering community members of all ages the opportunity to learn about gardening, growing, harvesting and preserving. The Food Security Strategy 2022 identified local backyard gardening as an important source of local food production, with 32,971 square meters of garden space available.
In 2025 we are on a mission to grow over 2000 pounds of food in our community gardens to donate to the foodbank.
Revelstoke Visual Arts Center (RVAC) garden: Rented out by season to community members to grow in.
Downtown Community Garden (at the United Church): Used for youth education, community workshops - with a majority of the produce being donated to the local foodbank.
Track street (on private land): In 2025 this garden will exclusively be harvested for the foodbank.
Community Connections: In 2025 the LFI will be collaborating with Community Connections to run their gardens, as well as offering educational opportunities. The food will exclusively be harvested for the local foodbank.
School gardens: In 2025 the LFI will be collaborating with the SD19 school garden programs to guide equitable education as well as ensure that the food is harvested for good use.
APPLICATIONS FOR OUR 2025 COMMUNITY GARDEN SEASON will open in April.
Various sizes are available to choose from.
RVAC GARDEN
The important community garden is located at 320 Wilson street, and is home to over 200 square feet of community garden space, a bee hive, a fruit forest, natural pollinator habitats and a pollinator garden. Alongside our dedicated volunteers, the LFI is able to offer local community members the opportunity to grow in an established garden plot equipped with irrigation, as well as grow a sense of community with other local folks passionate about local food.
New to gardening, but not renting a plot here? Each growing season we offer community growing nights that are open to all.
This garden is also the home-base to our annual youth summer camp program - offering campers the opportunity to learn about growing, local food, fruit foraging, bee keeping and pollinator habitats.

track street garden
This community garden is located on private land, and over the years has been used to grow for the food bank, as well as being rented to community members for private growing.
The Garden is located on Track St. overlooking the community of Revelstoke and the amazing mountains that surround it. What better place to garden!
For the 2025 growing season this garden will be used to grow for the food bank, welcoming volunteers in who would like to learn about gardening.
In 2024 we added new irrigation to the garden, to prepare it for the upcoming growing season.

Downtown Community Garden
The gardens at the United Church (Third & MacKenzie) are being used as an educational space for our Little Sprouts youth program and for community workshops.
How it started
In 2008, as a committee of the North Columbia Environmental Society, the LFI established an organic community garden at the Revelstoke United Church with the purpose of providing a growing space for the community, growing food for the Revelstoke Food Bank and demonstrating environmentally sustainable practices. Each year since, the garden has enjoyed different members and programming to enhance its offerings.
Ten years later, starting in 2018, the garden is now fully planted and cared for by the children of our community with the help of our Education Coordinator.

Growing local community gardens
In 2025 we are looking to expand our garden network to open up more space for locals to grow their own food, and to support our local foodbank. Do you have land you would love to see used for good? Would you like to make a financial contribution to help us build and operate our gardens?
Our community gardens would not be possible without:
Volunteerism & community support.
The generous grant support from the City of Revelstoke via the Redi Grant program.
Donations and financial support from local businesses.
Community groups and private landowners who allow us to host gardens on their land.
Our LFI garden committee.
